As an electron absorbs energy, it moves from lower to higher energy levels. The electrons can also move from one orbit to another based on their energies. Therefore, the electrons housed in the shells located closest to the nucleus had minimum energy, while the electrons located in the outermost shell have maximum energy. He stated that the energies of these shells also increase from inside to outside. He named these shells K, L, M, N, etc., in alphabetical order and 1, 2, 3, 4, etc., in the numerical order increasing from inside to outside. He further stated that these shells have specific energies associated with them, which is why they are also known as energy levels. However, in 1916, Niel Bohr came out with the solution.īohr explained that the electrons do not move around the nucleus in random directions rather, they follow fixed orbits, also known as shells. Rutherford was unable to answer these queries, due to which this model was also about to get discarded. As this energy increases, it becomes impossible for the electrons to keep moving inside the radius of the atom. The question was that if the electrons were continuously in motion, they would slowly gain some acceleration and, thus, energy. The major argument against this model was about the stability of the atom. neutral neutrons, and positive protons.Īlthough this model explained most of the properties of an atom, it was accompanied by certain drawbacks. That is why this model was also known as the planetary model of atomic structure.Īlso, the nucleus of the atom was made up of two atomic species, viz. The kakapo is a flightless, nocturnal bird whose existence has been threatened by introduced species. The university said the chick has recovered from the surgery and is now healthy and it will be transferred to a wildlife hospital in Dunedin, where it will be paired with another chick to minimise its contact with humans. "This is a risky surgery and the common complications for this surgery in humans and other mammals include permanent brain damage, continued leakage of cerebrospinal fluid and the possibility of meningitis," he said. Professor Gartrell said with no precedent available, they took inspiration from surgical procedures in human medicine. The chick Espy 1B will be taken to a wildlife hospital in Dunedin where it will be paired with another chick. "With only 144 kakapo left in the world, this condition could be life-threatening for the critically endangered bird, so action needed to be taken, but nothing like it had been attempted before in avian medicine." The concern was that if this tissue was damaged this would open the brain to trauma and infection. "In humans, this spot fuses after birth, but this is highly unusual in birds as the skull has finished fusing prior to hatch. "The chick was hatched with a hole in its skull that allowed part of the brain and dura to herniate out," said Brett Gartrell, who led the team which performed the surgery. The surgery to repair the developmental problem had never been attempted in avian medicine. The chick was flown for free by Air New Zealand to Massey University's Wildbase Hospital in Palmerston North where the vets took scans to identify the problem. There are only 144 kakapos left in existence, making the efforts to save the chick even more important. The chick, known as Espy 1B, was discovered to have an unusual lump on its skull shortly after hatching at a NZ Government-run conservation centre on Codfish Island, an island off the country's southern tip. As Javik, the only known survivor of the ancient Prothean race, bluntly puts it to the naive Liara: “Your people are hoarding the knowledge of my race for their own gain.” In short, the Asari didn’t sincerely believe in their ideals. They only founded the galactic government on multiracial ideals to keep their technological edge over everyone else. Yet, as their homeworld falls, we learn the Asari’s dirty secret they have always withheld Prothean technology from other races while enforcing laws that ensured everyone must share such technology. ![]() They were responsible for creating the multiracial government that currently runs the galaxy. The player must either defend the current multicultural order through genocide, or doom it to fall before a racialized horde. They cannot avoid making a choice that either guarantees the genocide of one race or slavery of all others. In short, with the genophage cured, Wreav dreams of founding an empire based on Krogan supremacy. Despite all this, if you’re still willing to cure the genophage, Wreav emails you - yes, emails you - promising eventual war against the Human race. Wreav himself makes lots of racist jokes and believes in “Krogan superiority,” just in case you doubted if you’re supposed to hate this guy. Liara warns you he’s commissioned more WMD’s than any other Warlord in Krogan history. Wreav desires a new Krogan Empire and reckoning for the genophage against other races. With Wreav in charge of the Krogan, the situation is bleak. Without it, they could enslave the galaxy. The Krogans nearly subjugated the galaxy once upon a time only the genophage stopped them. Many who oppose the cure worry history will repeat itself. Why? Well, the Krogan will only help Shepard if the genocide of their race is ended by curing the genophage. In the first act of vanilla Mass Effect 3, you need to decide whether to support the ongoing genocide of one race, or guarantee the slavery of all others. So, why should you play Mass Effect 3 without it? Vanilla Mass Effect 3 tells a more coherent story from beginning to end: this version of the game consistently shows that racial conflict is inevitable. It’s no exaggeration to say Bioware designed the series around this feature. This might seem odd, because importing choices from game to game is what this trilogy is rightly famous for. Mass Effect 3’s political message is best savored "vanilla," that is, without importing choices from Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2. ![]() Mass Effect 3 works better as social darwinist propaganda than it does as an RPG. I know that may sound nuts, or just inflammatory, but I’ve got the receipts. Mass Effect 3’s social darwinist message is that multiracial societies with multicultural policies are doomed to fail: they must end in genocide, slavery, or eugenic assimilation. But Mass Effect 3 is more like a cautionary tale or work of dystopian propaganda it’s a story designed to convey a specific political message, like 1984, or Brave New World. My mistake was expecting an RPG like Mass Effect 1 or Mass Effect 2, one where I have some agency in shaping the meaning of the story. Was I missing Mass Effect 3’s point? Definitely. I had no desire to replay it, which shocked me given my many completionist runs of Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2. In 2012, the game left me feeling empty and depressed. Bloody Ties is a safe, short expansion that gives dedicated Dying Light fans some new stuff to mess around with, but there’s not much to entice other people to dive back in.Edit: Okay so after finishing the main story and a few side stuff, things have picked up a bit. Still, those looking for a reason to return to the streets of Villedor have finally gotten what they’ve been waiting for. With as strong of an emphasis as Dying Light 2 placed on its main story, I kept waiting for Bloody Ties to make a narrative impact that never came.
